DONATE NOW

November 12th, 2021!

The Rotary Club of Ft. Myers SUNSET needs your help to change the lives of deserving children in your community!

We are inviting those in our community committed to making the dream of owning a bicycle a reality for children who otherwise might not own one.

Sponsor a bike, bring a few friends or co-workers and build bicycles with us!

The more sponsors we have, the more people are involved and the greater number of children we get to impact.

THIS IS WHAT OUR COMMUNITY BIKE BUILD WILL BE LIKE! SO MANY SMILING FACES!

WHY CHILDREN RIDING BIKES IS SO IMPORTANT

D Gutierrez

PERSONAL EMPOWERMENT

No one forgets the joy of receiving their first bicycle. A bicycle empowers a child, giving them their first taste of true independence, self-reliance, self-esteem, and helping build the foundation of a healthy lifestyle. Millions of children never experience these joys and freedoms – their lives are not favored by fortune or circumstance and a bicycle is a luxury their family cannot afford. Your donation will be the key to filling this gap and empowering these children with self-esteem.

“If I had a bike…I will be the first one to have a bike in my family. My new bike will change my life when I win it. I could leave home on it, and go to school. I could go to my cousin’s house whenever I want to. If I had a bike I would be full of joy.”

CONQUER CHILDHOOD OBESITY

A child who begins riding a bike before age 12 is 65% less likely to be obese in adulthood.

Nearly 1 in 5 American 4-year olds is obese
70% of obese 10 to 13 year olds will be obese as adults
30% of boys & 40% of girls are at risk of being diagnosed with type-2 diabetes

“If I had a bike I would be so happy. I would ride it all day. I would ride it even at night. I would take care of it with all my might. I would go every where I could go. Having a bike would help me get to school in the mornings. I would feel proud of myself if I had a bike.”

AN ENVIRONMENTAL LEGACY

Automobile CO2 emissions are a primary contributor of green house gases. A 10 mile 5 days a week round-trip commute in a small car averaging 35mpg produces nearly a ton of CO2. Biking as an alternative is a key contribution to reducing this carbon footprint.

Exposing children at an early age to bicycling as alternative transportation sets an example for them to be environmental stewards as adults.

We have reached our goal regarding number of sponsors and financial mark. At this time, the web site indicates all those sponsors who have donated by credit card, but some have donated by submitting checks, and these have to be posted to this site, a process which will be completed during this week.
A huge virtual hug and hearty thanks to all those who have generously supported this project. There will be a lot of happy children this Friday.
